Jaap den Toonder, full professor at TU/e and chair of the Microsystems section, has been awarded his second ERC Advanced Grant, worth more than €3 million. With this prestigious grant, he will investigate how cancer cells spread through the body, focusing on the process of intravasation – the moment when cells cross blood vessel walls.
In his new project Intrap, Den Toonder and his team will develop advanced cancer-on-chip platforms to study the mechanics of this critical step in metastasis. The research aims to uncover how properties such as cell stiffness, vessel geometry, and blood flow influence whether cancer cells can “pass or not pass” into the bloodstream.
From 15–18 September 2025 MicroFabLab will be present at the MNE 2025 conference in Southampton. As part of the program, we will showcase our latest developments through a poster presentation.
The MNE conference is one of the leading European events on micro- and nanofabrication, bringing together researchers and innovators across disciplines.
